Automobiles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Police stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official said the incident left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
