Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
