The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to honor unsung work and satisfy the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
